The Minister for Family Care and Demography, Jelena Žarić Kovačević, took part in the pro-family summit held on February 24 in Budapest.
The summit in Hungary brought together a large number of countries, and the main goal of the conference was to generate key recommendations, highlight best practices, and further deepen cooperation among countries and institutions working on the creation of family-oriented policies.

Žarić Kovačević spoke on a panel dedicated to the importance of global pro-family cooperation and also contributed to the discussion within another panel addressing the protection of family values in the context of challenges and responsibilities. She stated that Serbia has invested significant efforts in financially strengthening families and supporting their economic independence.

“For Serbia, family policy is a long-term investment in human capital. The drafting of the Demographic Development Strategy for the period 2026–2036, with projections until 2050, is currently underway. We expect this ‘population renewal plan’ to define our strategic direction for demographic development,” the Minister said.

She also referred to the highly developed practice of bilateral dialogue between Serbia and Hungary, adding that there is a strong foundation for further deepening cooperation in the field of demography and population policy.

Additionally, ahead of the summit, Minister Žarić Kovačević met with Balázs Hankó, Hungary’s Minister for Culture and Innovation, to discuss strengthening cooperation in the area of family policy.
