Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dačić said today, at the 7th Ministerial Conference of the Budapest Process, that Serbia is actively pursuing the common goal of resolving the migration problem.
He emphasized that migration has almost never been just a national problem, but always requires intensive and efficient cross-border and international cooperation.
According to him, the new Ministerial Declaration and the accompanying Call for Action represent the legal framework needed for border management and are the result of the solidarity of all participating states in the Budapest Process.
With this declaration, we confirm that we respect our obligation, as part of the international community, to support those who have the right to international protection. We will continue to adopt solutions, improve the fight against smuggling and advocate for the voluntary return of migrants to their countries of origin, the Deputy Prime Minister said.
Dačić emphasized that one of the priority activities of the Serbian Ministry of the Interior is to develop a strategy to create a safer route for the movement of migrants and the establishment of an efficient system for the return of foreign citizens who do not meet, or no longer meet, the conditions for legal residence in the territory of Serbia.
Dačić also said that joint work with global partners will continue, as well as developing cooperation with countries of origin and transit in order to analyze the causes of migration.
According to him, Serbia will continue to protect the human rights of migrants and refugees and will strive to take measures to prevent all forms of discrimination as adequately as possible.
